DNR helps in promoting energy-efficient historic homes

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ Energy Office has teamed up with the Preservation Resource Center (PRC) in sponsoring workshops to promote energy-efficient products and materials as well as hands-on training in the proper insulation techniques in the rebuilding of historic homes in the New Orleans area.

According to State Energy Office Manager, Paula Ridgeway, with energy costs on the rise and rebuilding decisions a priority for many residents and homeowners, the time is at hand for considering new products and technologies for rehabbing historic homes and in the construction of new homes.

What:	The "Keep Your Cool! Cutting Edge Solutions in Insulation" is the first of a series of workshop highlighting insulation choices such as cellulose, Fiberglass, Icynene, Rockwool and more. Advantages and appropriate applications of each will be discussed by industry professionals.
When:	Thursday, August 10, 2006. 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Where:	923 Tchoupitoulas Street, New Orleans, LA (PRC headquarters, between St. Joseph and Andrew Higgins)
Project:	Other workshops are a part of a demonstration project and additional sessions will be announced throughout the fall/winter months. The workshop series will conclude in March 2007 during the PRC’s annual “Shotgun House Month” with a tour of the Holy Cross homes that were part of the demonstration project. Workshops are free to the public.
