C&E Responds to Red River Parish-Area Tremors
Working with U.S. Geological Survey Seismic Experts to Investigate Cause

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana Department of Conservation and Energy (C&E) announced Wednesday they are working closely with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and universities throughout the state in the attempt to establish a definitive cause for the recent series of earthquakes in the Red River Parish area.
USGS has previously reported a number of earthquakes in the area since December 2025, with an overnight series of four Sunday night ranging in magnitude from 3.1 to 4.4.
C&E staff have engaged with the Red River Office of Emergency Preparedness and USGS in collaborating on investigations and the necessary response to the seismic activity.
“Our scientific staff and field agents have been following up on these earthquakes with investigation and site visits to gather data such as injection volumes, nearby faults and pathways that could provide a possible link,” Secretary Dustin Davidson said. “Thus far, we have not found any clear-cut connection. Several factors must align for us to determine the causation, as we know these earthquakes could have originated from miles away and at different depths from an injection site.”
C&E investigations to date have not turned up any unusual data that might signify a connection, but the effort is continuing with the assistance of seismic expertise and equipment.
“C&E will continue to investigate the potential cause and collaborate with USGS who have the tools and training that are needed to carry this forward,” Davidson said. “They remain committed to helping us refine our search for potential causes, whatever they may be.”
With participation from legislators and landowners in the area, USGS has installed some initial monitoring equipment with the potential to deploy more equipment if necessary.
C&E and USGS will continue collaborate, and draw in any other needed expertise, to further the investigation, isolate a cause and determine what steps might be taken to better predict or mitigate the earthquakes.
