DNR OFFICIALS WORK WITH IRAQI MINISTER OF WATER
The Minister of Water Resources (MWR) for Iraq will visit the U.S. and Louisiana beginning July 1st, according to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). As sponsors of the trip, USAID officials said the purpose of the study tour is to help the Iraqi Water Resources agency to better manage their water resources as they learn and compile information while meeting in Washington, D.C., Mississippi, and Louisiana. Additionally, the dignitaries have traveled to show their gratitude to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for technical support and training since the U.S. involvement in the Iraqi conflict.
Water Management Project in Basin Starting up
The startup of a dredging and water management project at Schwing Chute in lower St. Martin Parish has begun, according to Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary Scott Angelle. Officials are meeting for a ceremony to mark construction of the project at the Belle River Boat Landing on Friday, June 25, 2004 at 9 a.m.

Atchafalaya Bayou Teche Recreation Park Opens June 11
Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ Atchafalaya Basin Program will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the completion of the Atchafalaya Bayou Teche Recreation Park. The improvements to the park include fishing piers, bulkhead along Bayou Teche, a pavilion, and a putting green.
Dedication ceremony for Plaucheville Veterans Memorial held May 31
The Plaucheville Veterans Memorial will be dedicated in honor of the sacrifices made by the military veterans in the Plaucheville area. In this tribute to veterans, two special announcements will be unveiled at the ceremony.

Neotropical Songbird Tour in the Atchafalaya Basin, May 15th
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ Atchafalaya Basin Program (ABP) Non-Game Bird Committee will host a birding tour on Saturday, May 15, 2004 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The self-paced outing will begin at the Intersection of I-10 and LA Highway 975.
DNR Secretary Angelle meets with Senator Landrieu and others at nation’s Capitol
Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Secretary Scott Angelle spoke to several members of Congress today, including U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (LA) and U.S. Senator Pete Domenici (NM) to emphasize the state's role as an energy provider to the rest of the country. Senator Landrieu scheduled the meeting in Washington, D.C. with DNR Secretary Angelle and members of PACE (Parishes Against Coastal Erosion) headed by Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard.
City of Plaquemine holds ceremony for two waterfront projects
Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ Atchafalaya Basin Program (ABP), the City of Plaquemine, and U.S. Corps of Engineers will host a groundbreaking ceremony for Phase II of the Plaquemine Waterfront Park and the Bayou Plaquemine freshwater diversion project Friday, April 30, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Plaquemine lock state historic commemorative site at 57730 Main Street.
